I finally have a new digital camera in tow, which means new photos of Smyser art and artists are on their way! Third grade students worked very diligently on their Robert Indiana inspired paintings. Students discussed current events and came up with ideas on how to improve our world. They experimented with painting techniques and mixing. They will be on display for a couple more weeks in the Main Building so make sure to take a good look before they're gone.
Currently, all of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade artists are working hard on their new Musical Art unit. 3rd grade students are designing their own musical instruments and creating advertisement posters. Students learned about Juan Gris and many other artists who incorporate music into their artwork. 4th grade students discussed the collage pieces by Harlem Renaissance artist, Romare Bearden (one of my favorite artists!). Students learned how to draw musical instruments and currently they are creating mixed media collages using magazines and other papers. 5th grade artists are rolling up their sleeves to work on musical instrument observation drawings using chalk pastel and oil pastel blending. Upper grades are getting technical! They are using rulers and pencils to learn about and draw 1 point perspective cityscapes. Also, students learned about proportion and how angles are a huge part of many art techniques. 7/8th grade Art 2 finished up an amazing Video Game Design collaboration project with Mr. Dupree's General Music class. Take a look at some of their results below. They are currently working on some 3-D product prototype experimentations using clay and acrylic paints.
Keep up the great work artists!!
