Happy November! Last month, Smyser artists worked hard across all grade levels to produce many successful art pieces. 1st grade artists created passports, packed their suitcases, and are currently "traveling" to several different countries to learn about artists and art styles from countries such as France, Mexico, and Japan. They learned about Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and the art of Mexican Folk Art.
3rd and 6th grade artists completed some bold and brilliant Smyser Stands Strong posters in time for our new anti-bullying program which kicks off next Friday November 15th! 4th grade artists are working on Surrealism silhouette drawings and learning about artists Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, and Rene Magritte. 6th grade artists are completing some colorful and textured Landscape Drawings using charcoal, chalk, and oil pastel techniques. Our 7th and 8th grade artists are finishing some amazing 3-D Mixed Media Tunnel Book Designs.
Congratulations to our ARTISTS OF THE MONTH!
3rd - Gabriel Kozlowski
4th - Shyanne Mohr
6th - Devin Hayes
7th - Christina Erickson
8th - Samantha Martinez
*Every few weeks, Ms. Lee will choose 1 student from each grade level who exhibits excellent effort, talent, and technique. Students who receive this recognition will have their artwork displayed in Room 101 during that month.
In other news, Art Appreciation Club started last Thursday. 4th and 5th grade students enrolled in the club are to report to Room 103 (Main Building) from 3:45-4:30 every Thursdays. Art Club will run through the week of April 7th, 2014.
Also, room 101 is now being used during the day for most art classes (3rd and 4th grade classes). This classroom will be the art room for all of Quarter 2. Students should bring a pencil, eraser, and sharpener each class period. If other materials are needed, Ms. Lee will let students and teachers know ahead of time.
