Do you have the winter blues? If so, come on over to check out some amazing new pieces created by the wonderful Smyser artists! Currently, 1st grade artists are completing their paint and collage mixed media pieces using proportion drawings of Matryoshka Dolls from Eastern Europe. 3rd grade artists are completing a unit on Chicago architecture! Their watercolor city paintings have turned out fantastic. Students are adding small details, signs, and metallic colors for texture.
The talented 5th grade artists are learning about art from various regions of Africa. They learned about bold patterns from West Africa, earth toned nomadic art from the East, classic functional artist from Southern Africa, and the architecturally inspired art and tilework from the Northern regions. Students will be creating weavings using warm vs. cool colors, and also practice creating geometric vs. organic patterns. The 6th grade artists are continuing their practice of 3D art, by transitioning into their perspective drawing unit. Students are utilizing angles, lines, and forms to create a 3-D 1 point perspective cityscape. The 6th grade students are very technical, and possess lots of neat craftsmanship which is sure to show in their final results! The 7th and 8th grade artists are completing their unit on Art in relation to Propaganda - the concept of using art as a means of messaging or sharing ideas! The students are using watercolor techniques, pen and ink drawing skills, and collaboration to create 4-6 unique Artist Trading Cards. Students will be turn their stack of cards into printout that will eventually be traded with other artists from around the nation - stay tuned!
