Happy New Year Smyser!
I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing winter break. Now that we are back into full swing at school, it's time to end quarter 2 on a strong note. Smyser artists ended the month of December with a multitude of amazing pieces. 7th and 8th grade students completed their unit on Baroque Art and the "Dark arts" and created Illuminated Manuscripts using gold paint and watercolor pencils. 4th grade students completed their architecture unit and also experimented with 3-D stationary making for the holiday season.
3rd grade artists are ending their Chicago unit and recently finished their Mixed Media Cityscape Paintings. Next unit, students will learn new art making techniques using oil pastels and learning about abstract art and portraiture. 1st grade students are still learning about art from various countries. Students learned about art from Russia (pictures to come).
Art Club explored ornament making and also helped Mr. Dupree's 3rd and 4th grade choir by creating glittering stage signs.
Students, I encourage you to set new goals for the new year, and make sure you reflect frequently to make sure you are on track. Let's end quarter 2 on a strong note and have a great start to quarter 3!

Ms. lee's winter break trip: miami, florida
Over the holiday break, I traveled to Miami for 5 days and saw lots of............ you guessed it..... art! (If you haven't noticed yet, I try to travel and experience art during any spare time I have)! There is a very historic art district around the Wynwood neighborhood where I saw many street art. Here is a snippet of what I saw. Also, the last few photos are of art I saw in downtown Chicago this month.
